The photo by Martin Weber of the young girl on her shackle roof, wishing her parents would one day smile again, really appealed to me. You cannot tell the full extent of her situation just by the picture, but it does tell you most of it. She lives in a country that, not only has an increasingly high rate of unemployment hitting home with everyone, but the drug cartels have been at war with the government for many years. That combination is too much for some to take as you see in another photograph of a young boy who's dream 'is to die'.
Over the years growing up, I have seen my parents go through a lot with three kids of their own. Seeing a smile on my mother's face is the memory that sticks out the most because when she was happy life was easy. With me being a mischievous child she was unhappy with me most of the time but would always smile after I learned a lesson. In part that made me happy inside and over the years I have become less mischievous.
